Two otherwise excellent sections were marred by a broken joint: it was time to experiment with some repair techniques. This successful repair was done by pounding earth into the hole with the end of the wooden block, and finished with the side of the block to level it with the surrounding surfaces.
Did you use water, cement or the same formula that you used for the wall to repair the wall? did you use formwork?

we used the same earth as the wall with no additives. the hole itself worked as the formwork ( earth was worked into the hole by hand and then pounded with the wooden blocks seen in the photos ). this particular repair was successful, but later ones had mixed results. from what i could tell success was depended on the hole being above a minimum size (too small/shallow and it simply fell out) and the section of wall being relatively fresh ( if the section of wall had started to dry and cure, the repair would not bond well, though it does help to wet the area very slightly)
ReplyDeletebecause we ended up plastering inside and out (except for a small display piece) most of the minor repairs were not really needed, but if you hope to have your walls exposed, you want to be doing the repairs right as the formwork comes off.
